From the online users guide that you can get to from here: (click here), it explains that there is some kind of power switch lock on the LEFT side of the notebook that you have to slide out of the way in order to be able to press the power button.

They have no pictures of the laptop on their user guide, so it's a bit difficult to tell you exactly the location.

remove the battery pack and power source. make sure nothing is plugged into the laptop. hold down on the power button for 30 seconds. then reinstall battery, plug the the adapter into a known live power source (the real reason for your problem) and power it up!

My computer is requesting for bios password and i cant remember it how to i reset it

No getting around this one... but you can make yourself a parallel port key and it'll remove the password on power up. Buy an old, parallel port printer cable, cut it, and wire it yourself. Here's the link to the wiring diagram:

Hello, I have a problem with my Toshiba Satellite 4080XCDT, 1) CD does not work at all (damaged) 2) I cannot install WIN98 (because I do not have installation files on my HDD) 3) Toshiba Satellite...

Yep I do...

DON'T try to find a NEW exact replacement CD/DVD Drive! Because they are 'exotic' they are super expensive ~ IF you can even find one.

Instead buy a external USB CD/DVD Drive! Here's a technical description: USB 2.0 External DVD ROM Combo CD±RW CD-ROM Burner Drive +2x Cable for PC Laptop.

About $10 new from eBay!

Note that MANY of these drives requires TWO 'free' or unused USB ports. It's BETTER to pick on a drive WITH a external wall power supply to keep your USB ports free as possible.

Because of the AGE of your system do not expect to find drivers or upgrades for USB booting... you have enough problems!

IF your system still has it's SERIAL NUMBER tag on it YOU are in luck! You can find the Windows 98 CD for $8 on eBay!
eBay: 192371103177

Hurry on this one because he has only THREE left and thousands of people are hunting for this one
(just kidding)... there really are only 3 left.

All shipped from USA too. So TWENTY BUX and you are good to go!

Here's one more GREAT TIP for you! Go to eBay and hunt for eBay: 351766097525
This guy has TOSHIBA DRIVER CDs so MESSAGE him and ASK if he has a disk for your Satellite 4080XCDT?> A CD will save you a TON of time trying to find these older drivers! He did mention a 4060 series but I was unable to locate one for the 4080.

I have an old toshiba satellite 4080xcdt used by my kids, however since it was stored for about 2 years, they already forgot the password. could you help me reset this so we could use the laptop again?

This program can recover your windows password.

The Live CD is an ISO(image) file so burn it as an image with your favorite CD brning software. Window 7 has a buint-in app for burning iso files.

Toshiba Satellite 1905-S301 PC Notebook will not

Hi! You may want to toggle the function button designated for turning the monitor on or off. Press FN button together with th efunction button that has a monitor image on it. some system uses F2 of F3 button to do this. (Example: press FN+F3 or FN+F2 button together once while computer is on to turn on system display)

Hi i have a satellite 4080 laptop when i want

You probably have either some liquid or some dirt underneath the keyboard that is not allowing the key to make proper contact. Your logic controller for the keyboard may also have been damaged. The key board can be taken apart and cleaned but I would not recommend trying to do that unless you have done this type of thing before. To be on the safe side you would be better off taking the notebook to your local shop and having them do a diagnostic on the unit.

USB and DVD R/RW

First try to select my compuer on the desk top, hit the right mouse button and select properties. A window will pop up showing some gereral information about you pc, on top of that window select Hardware and in there the Device manager. See if there's any device with problems, you can see that easily because there's a yellow question mark if there's no driver installed for it or a yellow explonation mark if there's a problem. If you can see a yellow explonation mark than select the device hit the right mouse button and click uninstall. Than restart the computer and your OS will try to fix the device for itself when it's starting. If this is a missing driver kind of problem than try to find one at Opendrivers or Driverguide or just simply from the manufacturer's page if you know that.
