The problem is with the battery, the battery is been shorted, perhaps, due to power surge, the problem is not with the charger, to confirm this, if you remove the battery and plug in the charger to your notebook, you will see that it will still work, all you need do now is to get a replacement battery, because there is nothing you can do other than getting a new battery. Need to change Vista Ultimate
first thing you'll need is a genuine copy of windows xp to install from.
you will also need to format the hard drive before you attempt to insert the xp disc otherwise it will usually fail. you can do this with the hirens boot disc by going into mini xp then format the c drive.
replace the hirens disc with the xp disc and restart the computer and install xp.

Sounds like the power receptor is broken off inside. If you plug in the charging cable on the back, and it's "wiggly", I would venture to say that you will have to get it re-soldered.
Soldering at a shop can cost as much as a used (working) motherboard.

Unfortunately there are no user serviceable parts in thee PSUs however they are very commonplace on ebay, and while I know this does not serve a solution so am happy for you not to accept it as one. you can pick these PSUs up very cheap im not sure if you are in the UK but we get them here on ebay for around £10-£15 ($20)
