I have a problem with turning on wireless on Dell Lattitude E5400

The WIFI switch on the Latitude E5400 is located on the front edge of the system to the left. You can move it to the right or left to turn on or off.

Step 1 Find the wireless switch, located on the front of the E5400, to the left of the touchpad.

Slide the wireless switch into the "On" position to enable wireless radio communication on the Latitude.

Click "Start ' Control Panel ' System and Maintenance ' Device Manager." Double-click "Bluetooth Adapters."

Right-click the Bluetooth driver and then select "Enable" from the context menu, if available.

Navigate to the Dell Support website in a Web browser if the Bluetooth Adapters category is not listed in Device Manager.

Click "Start Here," then "Drivers Home." Click "Choose From a List of All Dell Products," then "Continue."
Step 7
Click "Laptops," "Latitude," then "Latitude E5400." Choose your operating system from the associated drop-down menu.
Step 8
Expand "Network." Click "Download File" next to the Bluetooth driver, then "Download Now."
Step 9
Launch the EXE file when the download completes. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the Bluetooth drivers to the computer.
Step 10
Restart the Latitude following setup to begin using Bluetooth on the E5400.

Sounds like a driver became corupt, boot in safe mode and remove the bad driver, when you reboot windows will reload the deleted driver...

1. Press and hold "Fn" button and while holding it down
2. Press the "F5" key on the keyboard.

That enables your wireless device.

You should be able to turn both of these on using one of your function keys, and the number keys across the top. The wireless symbol should be F5 (it is on my laptop) so hold function (bottom left key) and hit F5, that should start your wireless.

You can turn off the touch pad through the mouse settings in the Control Panel. I was a little frustrated by this too, but if you go to the Control Panel and click 'Mouse', the first tab of this new window is 'Dell Touchpad'. Simply click anywhere in that window and you'll be able to configure the touch pad settings. One great option for many people is 'Disable Touchpad/Pointing Stick when external USB mouse is present' as there is no easy one-button solution to disable it.

If you are not using it, uninstall Dell Control Point Connection manager, then the Window Wireless configuration will function normally

The little stair step symbol is the Dell Wireless Utility.
If it has an X on it (as in the image above), your wireless is disabled.


Flip the switch on the right side of the laptop to enable it.

When the X disappears, double click on the stairs and it will open the utility.
