I have tried the reset button on the back to no avail. I removed the batteries hoping it would reset itself; that has not worked either. I've tried pressing the 2nd key along with every key on the calculator hoping I would somehow hit a magic combination; nothing. Please help!

This is the real solution. change your old battery to new one. Then, keep pressing C-CE(on) several times until you hear the sound of a printer.

The problem with the E showing up on screen when you switch to the printer mode is a mechanical problem, with the printer, which is easy to fix. Start by removing the screws on the back and gently remove the back of the calculator machine. Once the back is removed, keep the machine upside down, and look at the printer portion of the machine. In the printer portion you'll see a group of plastic sprockets either on the left or the right, use your finger and gently push on them in an inward motion, there will be one sprocket thats out to far, and needs to be pushed back in, once that sprocket is back in it's place, the printer should be working properly, and the E should not be on the screen anymore.

I too have the same problem. If your printer is still within one year, call the manufacturer. I tried going back to the store I bought it from and turns out Sharp no longer makes this brand, probably because of the problem. We have two of these calculators in our office and both have the same issue. Contact Manufacturer and get money back.
