I like that description, but what i believe you are trying to describe is a de-lamination issue, turn the set off if you see a shadow that looks like the "icicles" that you are talking about de-lamination, the lcd panel's diffrent layers comming apart. Unfortuinatley if this is the case the panel it's self needs replaced if it is out of warranty it will be cheaper to purchace a new set.
