Danby DDR45A3GDB dehumidifier compressor does not run but gets really hot. The thing is only about 3 years old but I assume it is junk, no?

Might it be the capacitor not juicing the compressor sufficiently?

SOURCE: Really thick ice on back of dehumidifier

It is now frozen because the humidistat, which controls the on/off cycle, is starting to age and forgetting to turn off the dehumidifier. Try removing the humidistat and, using compressed air, blow it out thoroughly of any dust. Then spray the rotary control area, including electrical parts, with WD-40. Then, blow dry again with the compressor and try again.

Mine leaks. Had leaked at other times but i took the vacuum cleaner to the front drain spout, that leaks into the removable basin. That worked in the past, but i't's not working now . The water is overflowing at the back of the catch tray and leaking out through the bottom underneath. The holes are clear, so it shouldn't be doing this. I am stumped.

SOURCE: Danby Dehumidifier

I dropped the water bucket by accident on the dehumidifier, and I have the same problem. Here what I found :
First, remove the water bucket and find the circuit diagram, it is very useful.

E1 code is related to the room humidity sensor, E2 code is related to the room temperature sensor and E3 code is related to the safety thermistor sensor. If you have one of these error code displayed, you will probably have to replace the sensor.

The humidity and temp sensors are located on the same board. To access it, remove the water bucket and you will see the 2 screws holding the front panel. Remove the screws, then gently prayed the front panel. Be careful, there is two plastic clip on the top of the panel and they are really easy to break. The board is located at the top right, under the cover. The safety thermistor is located on a pipe on the right side of the dehumidifier.

Danby dehumidifier DDR7009REE about 10 years old, is it worth repairing if the compressor is shot?

No, these are throw away items. It will cost more to repair than getting a new one.

Have Danby dehumidifier, turned on first time this season, fan & all displays worked fine, but compressor never went on. Removed back panel & compressor is very hot.

Be careful. i do not know. set at highest setting and let it run. while running, reduce setting to the lowest over a few minutes. at a lower setting you should be able to tell that the compressor has started. run it for 5 minutes, then
unplug your machine. next, feel the cooling coils to see if they are very cold. if they are not cold, your unit needs to be serviced.

How do I determine reason that my Danby Dehumidifier isn't cycling on to compressor for more than 3-4 seconds at a time? Fan always runs but compressor only kicks in for 3-4 seconds then back off.

I would say low on gas or bad switch/thermostat.
The compressor probably has a shutoff for low freon. You would need a set of gauges to check for that.
Bad thermostat? You'd need a ohm meter.
User error? What kinda settings or controls do you have on the control panel?
There was a recall on these in 2014 for catching on fire.

The compressor on my Danby dehumidifier turns on for a few seconds, very weakly, and quickly cuts out. The fan and control panel are all working properly. The humidity is high enough for it to turn on...

Sounds like you've lost a lot of freon. Find the pump on your unit. Be careful, but after running it a while, touch the tube somewhere between the pump and cooling coils. If it is not hot then you have lost fluid. What happens is under normal working conditions the compressor would compress the freon making it hot, which then gets cooled by the radiator coils. In your case, there isn't enough fluid to compress to make it hot. Unfortunately, you need to have it refilled by a repair shop. Try your local A/C or HVAC shop. Don't be surprised if they can't refill with freon as it's bad for the ozone and being phased out.

AmanaD545M Runs but no water comes out

if the compressor is running and the coils dont cool, then you have a refrigerant leak or a plugged capillary tube. it would cost more to fix than to but a new one. sorry but its time for a new one.
