Who's do I get the filter out to wash

Most washers have what they call Magifilters. It means there is no removable filter to clean, unless the manual specifies one. Any filter inside is backwashed when the washing machine empties.

Backwashing A Sand Filter with A Push/Pull Slide Valve or Multiport Valve

Lots of people are first time pool owners and pool professionals forget to teach these "newbies" about the simplest aspects of pool ownership.

One of the biggest questions we receive from new homeowners is "How do I go about backwashing my sand filter exactly?"

It doesn't matter if you have a Hayward, Pentair, Jandy, Sta-Rite or any other number of Sand Filters on the market they all utilize the same basic valves for backwashing; a push/pull slide valve or a multiport valve.

To backwash with a multiport valve:
1) Shut off pump motor.
2) Press down on valve handle, rotate valve from FILTER to BACKWASH position.
3) Roll out any backwash hose or open any waste line valves.
4) Open air bleeder assembly on filter, and turn pump on.
5) Watch pressure gauge for backpressure and hose for kinks. Be prepared to shut off pump quickly.
6) After hose fills with water, run for 3 - 5 minutes or until water runs clear.
7) Shut off pump motor and move multiport valve handle to RINSE position. Run on rinse for 15 - 25 seconds.
8) Shut off pump motor and move multiport valve handle to FILTER position.
9) Turn pump back on and note lower pressure.
10) Roll up backwash hose so the dogs use it as a chew toy.

To Backwash a sand filter with a slide valve:
1) Shut off pump motor, roll out backwash hose.
2) Twist to unlock plunger T-handle, push or pull(depending on manufaturer) the plunger 2" - 3".
3) Open air bleeder assembly on filter, and turn pump on.
4) Watch pressure gauge for backpressure and hose for kinks. Be prepared to shut off pump quickly.
5) After hose fills with water, run for 3 - 5 minutes or until water runs clear.
6) Shut off pump motor and push T-handle back down into locked position.
7) Turn pump back on and note lower pressure.
8) Roll up backwash hose.

Who often should I backwash sandfilter

I would let it run for about a minute depending on how clogged it was. Our backwash drain is very visible so we can see when the dirty water has left the filter, usually about a minute or two.

may be that or you may try lowering the drain line, sometimes this can happen if the drain line is too high causing incomplete draining and backwash of the drainwater

Hayward pool motor shuts off in backwash mode.

Check the pump suction filter? To backwash it, is to
open the backwash tank cleanout valve, to clear the dirt out. If this does not work, check the pipelines going to the backwash tank for clogged lines.

Drain problem

If there's water in the drain line this is normal. There is roughly about a half a gallon of residual water that remains under the wash basket, drain line and drain pump combined. That's why it is important to leave the washer door open when not in use to allow the tub to air out. It will not evaporate the water, but will help reduce the build up of mold, mildew, and odors.

Now, if you look inside the wash tub and see standing water, then you may have some drain line issues. Make sure your drain line does not exceed 10 feet in length. Excessive lengths can cause backwash. Also, make sure the standpipe at the wall is at least two inches in diameter, a minimum of 34 inches from the floor and does not exceed a height of 72 inches. All these conditions can cause slow drain problems and/or backwash.

I hope this answers your question and that you find this helpful. Please post back if you need further assistance.

PS Make sure the standpipe is draining properly. It should be capable of draining approximately 17 gallons per minute.

Ld light

ld is a "long drain" fault. If it takes longer than 5 minutes for the water to pump out, the operating pressure switch will reset. Check your drain pump and/ore drain lines for a clog.
