Hi Keith... here is all I could find on this machine, I assume this is how yours is set up. Component details are almost impossible to get on E-machine units, they just do not provide them.
First, you want to check to see if your proc even can be changed; many of E-machine procs are permanently attached to the motherboard and cannot be removed; this is the cheapest way to manufacture a computer, and E-machines is bottom of the line quality computer (no insult intended, just fact). Since I don't know what CPU socket the T3604 has I can't tell you if the Intel CPU would fit it. Next, I don't know what the Northbridge is running at; if it is less than 1066 there will be a bottleneck and there is no significant gain. At this point, I suggest that you not spend a lot of money on this, better to save and build your own computer. If you are a hardcore gamer looking for high framerates you really don't want this machine. Better to load in more RAM if you have no other options. Here is something I ran across:

Thanks for the reply. I don't know much about this but the computer was upgraded to Windows 7 Pro, 3 GB RAM, and 250 GB hard drive before I got it used. The cpu is still the same one as you listed. I don't know if this information helps as far as a cpu upgrade. I'm kind of stuck with keeping this tower for now and was trying to get it to run a little better.

Notice you got only 512MB l2 Cache (very low, most procs are now2-4gig and larger) and a 533 FSB. The motherboard Northbridge is rated at 1066FSB so the CPU is not matched to the m/board creating a bottleneck (slows the transfer of data) which is typical of E-machines and many others. Since the Dell chassis is proprietary, a standard motherboard will not easily adapt, it would be better to replace the system than to try an upgrade this one.
