First thing to do is Back up the Registry. I'll be saying more about the Registry later. But suffice it to say that the presence of uninstalled security
software in the Registry can conflict with newly installed securitysoftware and cause system freezes. So can folders of "uninstalled"programs for that matter.
Once again, go to Start, then click on "Run". Type in "regedit"
Go to the top of the Regedit window.
Click (+) next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER. Go down the thread until you see Software.
Click on Software and scroll down the thread until you see Symantec. Right click on Symantec and choose "Delete".
From there go down to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and repeat step
3. Restart your PC.
Click (+) next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, now: Click (+) next to Software,Click (+) next to Microsoft, Click (+) next to Windows and Click (+)next to CurrentVersion.
Select the Run folder. Right-click and delete each Symantec entry you see (if present). Restart your PC.

Well if you want to delete click start->run->type "msconfig" In the configuration window click on services tab. Uncheck all the entries named symantec or norton. Now click on STARTUP tab and uncheck the symatec startup entries. Now restart the computer and try deleting once again. By the way that access denied message is displayed because the file u want to delete is being used by some symantec service if unselect and restart they will be terminated so that you ca delete the folder.
Its a devil of a software to uninstall try in safe mode.....doing the things you first did including the program files etc....

Hi I purchased a Packard Bell B3410 with preinstalled Norton antivirus and wanted to upgrade it to Norton 360 but when I tried to uninstall the original on the computer no Norton antivirus are displayed on the add/remove programes. And if i try to install the 360 it says to uninstall the prevoius version of Norton antivirus?
