windows 32x can only handle max 4 GB.windows 64x 8-12 GB.
invest in some new memory (RAM) that's best.

Not able to access it in what way? Is there a password for the BIOS or something? Normally on most (all?) Compaq models, F10 is the key to use to access the BIOS.

on that information maybe can carry the motherboard upto 2GB memory. You can change maybe each slot ot the memory to 1GB per slot to have you total of 2GB.

Beyond adding memory, there really isn't anything you can add or change in the hardware to gain any real speed. Older computers don't support the technology to go as fast as the newer ones.
Other than being slow to start up and load programs, these older machines are still useful. For Internet access, email, word processing and other applications like that, computer speed isn't much of an issue anyway. The people who really need processor speed are gamers or users of power applications like animation or music or big number-crunching financial packages. I've fixed up systems like yours for parents who love the fact that about all their kids can do with them is schoolwork.
Bottom line, though, is that it would be better to put money into a new computer instead of trying to upgrade this one if you truly need more speed.

Virtual Memory (or Paging File) is controlled on your computer and is actually space on your hard drive. In windows XP, go to START, right click My Computer and select Properties. Under the Hardware Tab, select Settings under Performance. In the Advanced Tab, under Virtual Memory, select Change. Set the Paging File Size to "System Managed". Click Set>OK>OK>OK.
This error should go away now, unless your hard drive is getting full. Check to make sure that you have at least 25% free space on the hard drive where the Paging File is set up.
