Every time I insert the tape says to re inser the tape.

reel sensor is the problem of your camera it is a common problem to that model,maybe the pinch roller is loosen to the post cause of the lock of that is been broke..that roller is that one that pulling the tape...only a technician can put it back to the mechanism and replace that lock...in sony service they replace the whole assembly and cost a lots...i suggest find other service center for fixing it...hope that roller is not lost in your camera...

This is a very common problem with many of Sony cameras. Please tap the camera at its bottom and left side a few times after removing the battery. I am sure that its going to work for you.
I have this problem repeatedly coming up for my cam and I solve this by this home made remedy !

that is a capstan error code. doesn't always need a capstan however. may need cleaning, Many times the takeup tension needs adjusting ,if it's to low it will produce the code.

Actually this problem is related to the loading of tape path which get misaligned, most of the times improper insertion of cassette caused this problem and secondly dust/dirt in the gears of mechanical could be the cause. In this situation cleaning and mechanical adjustment is required, and mechanical adjustment bit difficult and only expert can perform this, therefore i advise for an expert to sort this problem.

Sony is a ******* piece of **** corporation that has foisted their name on professionals and consumers as being the epitome of high technology for all forms of media. They are, in fact, scam artists that have perfected the art of programmed obsolescence and early life failures for their equipment. Because I have been a professional video/audio engineer for 30 years, I have been forced to own and use more Sony gear than I am comfortable admitting to. There is NO answer to your dilemma because it is a defect programmed into the circuitry of Sony DV-Cams that will ultimately force you to take the machine in for repairs...again and again and again and again....
Do your self a huge favor and smash that piece of **** with a sledge hammer right now. Then, go out and buy a Canon. Great products and great tech support. Sorry I couldn't solve your problem for you. But, I am an engineer and I can't even solve this one myself.
