Without any indication of 'make model (what it is)', it may be that the red light flashes whilst charging and it changes to green when charged or it changes to solid red or even just goes out.

Open front cover and locate the battery compartment door.
Gently remove the two "AA" alkaline batteries located in the battery compartment.
Install two new "AA" alkaline batteries into battery compartment. Make sure to match the positive (+) ends of the batteries with the positive (+) terminals located in the battery compartment.
Close battery compartment. The low battery indicator should not appear in the display.

It has to be the same type and it must be the same size. The modern trend is for cards with huge capacity, but older cameras had a maximum size, sometimes as little as 256MB, so it won't recognize a 5GB card.
