Bleeding the slave cylinder
A simple procedure.. I use a length of clear plastic tubing..about 1m will do...with a snug fit on the slave cylinder bleed screw. Simply attach one end of the tubing to this screw and the other into a clear bottle with at least 50mm of clean brake fluid, making sure the end of the tube is immersed in fluid. Personally I like to place the bottle in the engine compartment where it can be easily seen. So with everything in place, open the bleed screw, fill the reservoir to max then begin pumping. After several strokes ..perhaps 4-6..you will begin to see fluid moving up the tube. Continue pumping until fluid begins to fill the bottle, with no signs or traces of air bubbles. Be sure to check the reservoir often while pumping , topping off as required. Leaving bottle in place, slide under car, tighten bleed screw disconnect tubing then remove bottle and tubing from area. Inspect for fluid spillage and if any is found, flood with clear water, close bonnet and test drive. Good luck.
Timing the camshaft on 1959 TR3a
Quite simple to do done this on my exam many years ago with NO timing marks and a nothing but a starting handle to fire the engine up .No1piston at the top ,both valves on no1 closed with inlet valve the last one to close ,drop distributor in with rotor arm pointing at the no1 lead and away you go ,points are set to 15th for a lucas distributor valve gaps are 12 inlet and exhaust 15th ,Never did like these cars much even years ago always liked the sunbeam rapier or humber hawk ,maybe a MK2 consul they were good as well but these and the vauxhalls were always rust buckets
I have a 59 Triumph TR3. I am sick of leaks in
Don't know if the Gauge you are talking about is Authentic or not..... But go to the Auto Accessory shop and buy some OIL LINE.... run it from the Gage to the Sende on the Engine via the Firewall.....The TR3 are an interesting Machine.... wish I had one.....
What difference will it make to the performance of my 1976 triumph 2500 if I use 98 octane fuel.
98RON or ? what?
sports car old, I had a 1964 spit fire. I restored.
The octane 98 is high, and harmless on all cars.
only lead free can be a problem to exhaust valves.
this engine is computer free. totally. or is Lucas Mark 2?
or like mine 2 SU carbs? I do SU . very good.
and spark is controlled by the Dizzy only (distributor)
so if running poor fuel grade we adjusted the DIZZY timing
for a tad less advance so as not to allow PING>
we even tuned it to the The PING point and backed off a tad say 2 degrees from stock timing.
if mark 2 Lucas , ive no clue. FI. old. relics.
95RON octane rated new. or higher.
if carbs are lean, the spark may need slight retard settings.
if it pings, don't let it ping ever. (back in the day)
sounds like marbles in a bucket. wrecks pistons.
How would I replace a battery on a Triumph wristwatch ? I have the tool to put the back on . Just never encountered this type of battery with it's unique hold down . Thanks in advance Godbless
To replace the battery in your Triumph wristwatch, you may need to use a specialized tool to release the steel hold-down. Here are the steps you can follow:
Remove the back of the watch using the tool you have.
Locate the battery and the steel hold-down. The hold-down is usually a metal plate that covers the battery and keeps it in place.
Use a flat screwdriver or a specialized battery removal tool to gently pry the hold-down up and release it from the battery. Some hold-downs are held in place with screws, so you may need to remove screws first.
Once the hold-down is removed, gently lift the battery out of its compartment.
Replace the old battery with a new one of the same size and type.
Replace the hold-down over the new battery and press it into place.
Replace the back of the watch, making sure to tighten the screws securely.
Note: If you're not comfortable with replacing the battery yourself, it is best to take your watch to a professional watch repair service for assistance. Replacing the battery improperly can cause damage to the watch.
Are there two different spark plug sizes for a 1965 spitfire mk2?
I believe that these are heat ranges. One for touring and one for city driving. The touring plugs run cooler. Someone could have put the hot plugs because of oil fouling. Another option ( I raced a 65, ) is to go with platinum plugs. More expensive but last forever and can run a hotter heat range so no fouling.
Cant start engine
The three fundamentals...
1. fuel
2. spark
3. compression
Low/zero compression would explain faster than normal starter spin, but questionable root problem with "just cut out".
Are plugs wet with fuel? If not, verify carb bowl has fuel at proper level. If plugs are dry, pour a couple tablespoons of fuel down the carburetor and see if it fires. If it fires... its carburetor or no vacuum/compression. If it doesnt fire with raw fuel, then likely no spark, followed by low/no compression.
Recheck spark with a cheap spark tester, the kind with adjustable gap, and verify check actual spark.
Do a compression test.
