How do I check the "line cables"? What are they and where? Sorry, not really technical and I'm old, really old" Ha Ha !

I mean The phone cables, the ones that connect to the phone sockets.

Try first unplugging all power cords and waiting ten minutes, then check connection to phone, ensure that the phon cable is not for example on top of a power adapter.
