When I hear a problem described like this I think of Virus infections. If you are an avid torent downloader this problem occurs when the downloading program begin to capture the port used by your printer. Thus the printer begins to malfunction.
To avoid the issue, monitor the amount of time the torrent download progarm runs unattended, repair printer software by installing printer disc and run a virus scan for open port on your machine.

Hmm that happens me too how is that possible..

The printer worked on everything but scan; when you pushed the scan button the screen would say "scanning" but nothing happened. I ran the install disk again and it gives you an option of fix problems and this worked for me. - Jim
