Any time you add salt to a pool, you need to turn off the salt system for 24 hours to prevent damage to the salt cell. You can brush the pool to help the salt dissolve if you need to.

get a salt test strip kit
you want to be as close to 3000ppm as possible let system run on filter only for at least 24 hours before trying to generate chlorine
