"The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0150002)" trying to open 3dmax

Visual c++ runtime is required by most of the applications developed with visual c++.

Download and install:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/vc60pro/update/1/w9xnt4/en-us/vc6redistsetup_enu.exe

Then reboot computer, 3ds max should start without problem.
