You can press the home screen button + the s key - access text message.

(i also suggest getting your track-ball fixed :P)
You can use the enter key (right below the "DEL") on your keypad in place of the trackball.

the enter key dosen't work either. i tried calling customer care and they informed me that my warranty is void. and i didnt purchase the insurance on my phone please tell me that i am not screwed.
i have the same problem how did u fix it
my trackball will move left to right up but NOT down. therefore all the solutions work except i cant txt back,
