If it is DSL modems, you just have to access the setup page of your device to configure it using PPPoE, DHCP or bridge mode.

If it is a cable modem, either you install the drivers for USB connection between the computer and modem or just use the Ethernet connection on the modem. You need to register the MAC Address of your modem to your ISP.

How do i reset it

This should work for most most Motorola Cable Modems. If not, send me your model number.

Hook a computer to your cable modem and go to http://192.168.100.1 You should see a configuration screen for your cable modem. Select "Configuration" from the menu. You will now see the option to "Reset All Defaults".

Change MTU settings on an RCA DCW 725

  • There are no user configurable options to cable modems, everything is based off the configuration file that your ISP pushes to the modem during registration.

  • Try connecting your XBOX directly

Just trying to upgrade my asus eeepc 701 sd to take a wireless broad band heuwai modem

Ive tried this configuration many times if you ask me people connected to huwaei post thes things stating certain modems are configurable under linux,in a decent way but in fact they just want you to buy a modem which will never configure on a day to day basis properly.
i suspect this is a fraud to get you to pay£20--£49.99 for their dongles.
The basic problem is the auto wizard under linux does not recognise their modems--proceed at your peril!

My AOpen modem fm56-svv say: NO CARRIER

Assuming you have checked the connection to actually make sure you have dial-tone, you could go into the modem's properties page (Control Panel -> Modems-> Properties) then go into the MODEM tab and make sure to UN-check the box that says "Wait for dial-tone before connecting". Sometime the modems don't detect dial-tone properly.

When I change modems i can't connect to the internet.

You must provide valid wan configuration on the modem part. Get it configured from your providor or check your old modem configuration note down wan settings. Apply these settings to your new ADSL+Router.

Bought a Belkin router model # f5d8326 4 v2 was told this worked for cable modems not working yet

Make sure the modem is configured properly so it would detect the router. Most of the time, modems now has DCHP capability, meaning it has the ability to hold the username and password you ISP has provided you. The most effective way of making modems work with routers is to bridge the modem first before connecting the router.

Bridging the modem is done by opening the interface of the modem. To pull up the interface of the modem, type the default gateway of the modem in the address bar of your browser(intenet explorer)

Look for the "connection configuration" button and choose "bridge ethernet" as the connection type.

Once the modem is bridged, connect the router to the modem, then configure the router to set the connection type to pppoe. Once done, type your username and pw your ISP have provided the save the settings. This should cpnnect you online..

Modem automatically not configured ( Network Adapter)

This happens with almost all the modems and routers. You can try resetting the modem ( you can find the reset button at the back side or underneath the modem ). After the reset, the modem should get auto configured.

Thank you

Speedstream Modems and Firewalls

No, I would suggest using a router with a built-in firewall. Internal modems don't have firewalls.
