Has been setting on the counter for a couple of years. Measuring dcv, on a 9v battery, readout is unstable and lower than it should be. Measuring acv, reading is about half what it should be. There is a very slight scorched smell but circuit board and components look pristine.

Hello,
If batteries are fresh (low batteries give false readings on the meter because the meter uses the batteries to benchmark what it is testing), then you might want to consider taking the meter back even if it has been a couple of years. If that is not possible for you then try calling Greenlee themselves and seeing if there is a warranty on the meter-some meters have 7 year warranties.
