Hello,

Some eee pc asus netbook are designed to have an integrated OS reset which means that you can reset it to its factory setting by just pressing on a key.

Here's what you can try before doing the clean reinstallation. Turn on the computer. Once it's turning on, tap F8. If your netbook has the integrated OS reset, then, it will go to a screen where you can see the set up instructions. Just follow the instructions on the screen.

If F8 does not work, you need to do the OS reinstallation. You badly need an external dvd drive for that because netbooks do not have that component. DVD drive is needed for the OS reinstallation disc.

If you can find an external DVD drive, then, read the following tutorials that I made. Just click on the right tutorial.

Hello there. A reformat basically means to erase everything and restore it to a point where it was new.

Now if you still want to reformat, Number 1, you will need the DVD to install the Windows 7 Operating system as well as all your files will disappear. Another thing you may do would be to make a complete back up and then the reformat.

I RECOMMEND the following:

1. If your pc is running slow, download this utility and run its features

2. Next you should do a complete PC virus and Spyware scan.

Three possibilities:

1. when you start your computer, there could be a message "press BLAH to start SYSTEM RECOVERY". If so, then do so, and you may be able to reinstall Windows.

2. before you reformatted, there could have been a program on your computer that allowed you to burn your own "System Recovery" sets of CD/DVD disks.
Too late now to run that software!

3. Contact ASUS. Since your computer was factory-loaded with a Microsoft OS, they may be able to provide you with a replacement set of CD/DVD disks.

No you do not need to update the bios if you are reformatting the PC

The only time a bios update is needed if the manufacturer releases a updated bios to fix a bug or a issue

How to reformat ASUS Eee PC 900 notebook?
I have the linux version, not sure if you have the windows version or if it really matters. If you are looking to "reformat", you can go with the other suggestions with the USB stick. However, if you are reformatting to get back to the default settings, power on the computer and immediately hold F9. This will bring you to a screen that gives you the option to "restore factory defaults". You will lose all your previous settings, but if you were reformatting anyway, that's probably not a big concern.
