That motherboard should have an onboard ethernet controller.
To load the driver, find the disk that came with the motherboard, it should have all of the necessary drivers.
If you can't find the disk, you should be able to search for the drivers on the manufacturers web site. Just enter: "ASUS P5L-VM 1394" in google, yahoo or whatever search engine you want.
You should find the manufacturers web page and a link to drivers.

Try uninstall your missing ethernet drive, and reinstall it.
if still doesn't show up mean it hardware malfunction.
buy another PCI ethernet card.

MX3228 ethernet controller missing, recovery disk doesn't have driver. I don't know the chip set or what NIC it is.

You didn't list your operating system. I chose the Vista drivers. If this is wrong just click on the "change criteria".

Missing ethernet controller+Pci device+ sm bus controller

PCI Modem is your dial up modem, Ethernet Controller is your Network Card, and SM Bus Controller is your Motherboard Chipset drivers. There missing because your Operating System has Either Corrupt Drivers or they were never installed in the first place. Sounds like a fresh installation was done and nobody bothered to look in the device manager to see if any hardware drivers were missing.

you will have to get a friend to download ethernet controller from
toshiba support eu.com.then simply install driver.this should solve your problem.
