Most likely it's a dirty filter. Remove dirt tank and empty it. Remove the filter and rinse thoroughly in running warm water until the water runs clear. Allow to air dry thoroughly before using. I recommend having two filters so you have one to use while the other is drying.
If this doesn't help, do call a rep or take the vacuum to an authorized Aerus Electrolux store. A diagnosis is usually free.

    I removed the filter which was clogged and dirty but now when I try to put back the filter it does hold and falls down - I am wondering that the filter has become loose or may be I threw away something that was holding the filter
