The problem with my Hotpoint first edition WMA13 is will not start the washing cycle every time i close the door the door locked light keeps flashing. I did have this problem before but it always worked previously by just opening & then re closing the door. However now it will not work with the door locked light just flashing. ?

IF you machine is a wma39 not a wmm39a then what has happed is that you control board is blown basically.
TO check this remove the soap draw and you will c three screws remove them... TO make removing the panel easier i would suggest removing the top as well as the front panel is wedged into it.. Then unclip the board from the panel and you will c where the big wiring plug is attached that the tracks on the board are blown.. There is no point replacing the board untill you can work out what has caused it to blow because it will blow again.. Its usually the motor or the doorlock which blows the board.. Trust me i been dealing with this type of machine for years...

does the door still lock? becasue it sounds like a faulty lock. It may need to be replaced.

push on the door where the lock is... it may not be fully locked.
