Are you pressing the Progressive Scan button on the front of the Player? You need to look at the BACK of the Player. There is a manual switch just below the words "LINE OUT". This needs to be moved to the left where it says "Normal"

I too can not turn off the progressive scan feature. I called the 800 number but it has been turned off??
My 2 year old button pusher turned on Progressive Scan and I cannot turn it off, now the screen is black. I know that there is a button on the remote but I cannot remember which combination turned it off.
