I have a weller EC1201A iron connected to an EC2100D base unit. It is a UK 240V model with digital temp set and display. The iron does not heat up. You can set the desired temp but the display just reads about 35C. The iron does not get warm to touch. I thought it was the iron heating element open circuit but that checks out as 15 Ohms. With the iron disconnected there is 24V AC from the base unit to the pins connecting to the heater element but with the iron connected there is 0V. There are no shorts to chassis in the iron (unless the measured 15 Ohms is too low for an element?). I have checked all 5 pins on the iron plug connections from the internals of the base unit through to the iron internals so the plug mating is fine. Unfortunately I do not have another base unit or iron to try so wonder how I can tell which of them is the faulty part?

I have found out the problem was a faulty temperature probe in the EC1201 iron itself. I found this by comparing it's cold resistance compared with an EC1201A iron. The temp probe measured 22 Ohms, mine measured 50KOhms. When I connected a 22 Ohm resistor across my iron's temp probe terminals it heated up. So I need a new temp probe, probably unobtainable here in Saudi Arabia.
