SOURCE: Big Problem Sending & Recieving Messages
I am assuming that you purchased this as an unlocked phone?
It needs to be set up with your carrier if you already have not.
If you did a full reset, the settings for your carrier most likely were not retained through the reset.
The reason you would get this message on your phone would be if the messaging is not set up properly, it will try to use other resources on your phone not meant for messaging.
If your on T-Mobile, go to
http://tmobileuspublic.wdsglobal.com/
and follow the instructions to set up messaging and web.
If your on AT&T Wireless, go to
http://selfcare.mycingular.net:8082/scgui/
and follow the instructions to set up messaging and web.
Hope this helps,
Simon.

I am also having the same problem...i've even formatted my phone, deleted a whole heap of stuff and still it says the same message when I try to send a message...i've also checked the memory space which has about 11kb's free on my phone memory and over 5 gigs free on the mass memory...I was getting quite cozy with this phone to
Yea same thing is happening to me. Is there anyway to solve it????

My phone started doing the same thing last night and i have plenty of memory left :@
Yep, I have the same problem (can't send because either memory too full - it's not! or too many applications open). I've tried a number of things based on my service provider's ideas:
1. battery out, wipe sim card with clean/dry cloth - it eventually seemed to help but then the problem reoccurred.
2. Deleted all texts from my sent box - did not help.
3. Checked the messaging centre number (which did not match either what the shop where i bought the phone had, or my service provider had). This did seem to help for a while then, the problem reoccurred.
4. My service provider sent some configuration settings to me (with the help of the guy in the shop where i bought the phone). This immediately worked, but then a few days later after sending a text to the USA - problem reoccurred.
5. Called service provider again for some configuration settings. He insisted that was not the problem and suggested I go to their store and have them look for some software updates for the N81 - that's where I'm at now, about to head to the store.
This is completely doing my head in!!
