There are a couple of things you can try to fix this. I think you must likely will just need to run IE8 with 'compatibility view' enabled (see below).

Method 1

I would suggest you to run the website in Compatibility mode and check whether you are able to access the website. Follow the steps mentioned below to turn Compatibility View on or off,

There's two ways in which to repair Kb927917 Error message
Expert User Resolution (manual update):
1) Start the machine and sign on as an administrator.

2) Then click the Start button then click All Programs, Accessories, System, after which click Restore.

3) In the next screen, click "Restore my system to a previous period" then press Next.

4) Find the most up to date restore point in the "click a restoration date" listing, and then click Next.

5) Click on the Next button in the verification window.

6) Reboot the laptop or desktop once the rescue is done.

but you can use any other explorer as modzilla or google chrome and the error will not occur

Please contact Microsoft for patches for IE8 Beta or use windows update.

You should also reconsider to upgrade IE8 Beta to IE9, wich is actual safer to use, also use windows update to do this.

Within IE8, delete all Temporary Internet Files.
Close IE8.
Open IE8, and access Facebook's "home" page.

Does the error happen "all" the time, or only when accessing one specific friend's web-page?
