Windows 7 starter is the fartest you want to take this. I would recommend windows xp 32bit o/s since your netbook can't expand beyond 1gb. With windows 7 starter, on the long run, it's going to lag because windows 7 starter is 1gb min requirement already and you have a low running processor. Windows Xp is where I would stay if I want to be safe.

Windows 7 doesn't run on an ARM type cpu. The Sylvania Netbook running Win CE 6 is an ARM type cpu. While you can run a couple of versions of Android on it, I don't think you will be all that happy with it if you are a keyboard oriented person. Android makes you use the cursor to drag the screen around rather than scroll bars. So far there has not been a consumer level port of Linux to the box.
If you locate "wince6freefiles.zip" you will a lot of goodys in there that will reduce your itch to upgrade the OS.
