I have a an INTEL Motherboard Model DH55HC. I am installing a basic Internal DVD writer (DVR-A18M) Interface ATA/ATAPi-7. I have the power cable from the POWER SUPPLY in the correct plug. I attach the provided IDE (38-40pins) cable to the DVD WRITER. But... My motherboard has no IDE (38-40pins) it only has a PARALLEL PORT HEADER (24 pin)????? How am supposed to connect a DVD ROM PLAYER/WRITER? Is a specific adapter needed. Do i need to buy a PARALLEL PORT HEADER (24 Pin) DVD WRITER...if they exist!

That motherboard doesnt support ATA it supports upto 6 SATA devices which is actually better and faster. You will need to take your DVD/RW back and ask to swap for a SATA and also make sure you buy a SATA cable and good thing is these are actually cheaper and faster. Its actually a very nice motherboard dont be disappointed. Cheers from Scott and plz vote

Your motherboard has 6 serial ATA connectors. This much smaller connector has replaced the older IDE connector.

If you google search Serial ATA IDE connector, you will find many different brands available. Below is a picture of what one looks like.

This mother board uses SATA you have 6 SATA connections for Hard drive etc.
best to buy a SATA dvd burner and move away from IDE sata is faster and not too expensive.

I hope this was useful.
