Error 1005 is an error with the disc rather your disc is scratched or just smudged it needs to be cleared.
There are a few ways to go about this.
You can manually clear it with some disc cleaner spray and a soft cloth that won't leave lint on the disc.
You
can also go to a professional disc cleaner. I have a movie rental store
in town that has a disc cleaner which removes a very very thin layer
off the disc to remove the scratches. (Don't worry the data on the disc
will not be erased in this process.) Warning if you attempt a
professional disc cleaner many times the disc will not be readable. Try
to keep the disc in a safe place where it can not be damaged.
You
can also call the manufacturers and have then send you a new recovery
disc or send you one in the first place to perform a full system
recovery (Factory Recovery)
Lastly you will also get this error if you are trying to make a recovery disc and did not user a (plus) DVD+R disc.
Now
I am new to this error as well but I cleaned my disc manually and tried
again after searching a solution and coming here. After cleaning my
disc I have successfully recovered my computer to it's factory state.
Words of advice:
