After installing the MFC 7420 Brother printer, computer started to take ages to close down. I didn't associate the problem with the printer at first, but a repair shop said the problem was definitely the printer. They removed the software and the problem disappeared. When I tried re-installing the Brother software the problem came back. I have Windows XP.
You need to get the uninstaller from Brother and then re-install most upto date software downloded from Brothers Website. I too had trouble with the software
