if your computer has a Firewire (IEEE 1394) port, you can use a Firewire cable to connect one of the AudioFire4's Firewire ports to the computer's Firewire port, then hook up your XP80 to the MIDI ports on the AudioFire4. Connect MIDI Out to MIDI In.

I weould try using an Extgernal Drive with both USB and Firewire ports. Connect the camera to the firewire port and the USB port on the external drive to the computer. Not the most elegant solution but will most likely work.
If your computer has facility to add a firewire BUS then you could add one. Usually a blank port called express card 34.

Check you have the latest software or firmware drivers from their website at Focusrite.com

Check that the FireWire cable is connected properly.

Try using the supplied power cable.

Try using the other FireWire port found on the back of your Saffire product, and also try different ports (if you have more than one) on your computer.
If you have any other FireWire devices connected, try disconnecting them, as they may be restricting the FireWire bandwidth too much if connectedon the same bus.
NB: You may have more than one FireWire port on your computer. Note that they may be connected to the same bus, even though they appear to be physically seperate. This will be the case if you have a FireWire card with multiple FireWire ports on (all ports on the card will be on the same bus), and is also often the case if you have multiple ports inbuilt on you system.
Increase the FireWire buffer size on your FireWire card, found at C:/Program Files/Focusrite [Saffire product]/Driver/ASIOControlPanel.exe (where [Saffire product] is the name of your Saffire product). Its default setting is 2ms, but you may find that increasing it helps connectivity and will improve audio performance, at the cost of increasing latency.

You will need a firewire cable and a firewire port on your computer. If you don't have such a port then you can buy a pci firewire port. The firewire port looks like a usb port but its slightly bigger and on the one end is forming an angle.

Depending on the model, yes it does have a firewire port. The firewire port is also known as a IEEE-1394 connection. There are 2 possible layouts for this port, 6 pin and 4 pin. Below is a link to an image that shows what the 2 different ports look like. The larger 1 is a 6 pin and the small is 4 pin.

No such thing s a dumb question, I transfer from my Canon XL1 to my Mac IBook with firewire all the time. You have three choices: 1. Buy a cable with two different ends - one that will fit your camera (the tiny one so small it is hard to insert) and one that will fit the Mac. Your Mac should have two different types of firewire ports - the semi-round one and the square one that looks like a USB port, but isn't. The symbols are different  for firewire ports firewire and USB ports. But all firewire ports, regardless of the configuration will have the firewire symbol and all USB ports will have the USB symbol.  Either firewire symbol port will work. I have two different firewire ports on my MacBook G4 and use them both,  I keep a bunch of firewire connectors around. They usually come with outboard hard-drives in various configurations. Sold en Ebay or at computer stores Solution 2: Feed your firewire through an outboard drive that will accept the 400 firewire (many do) and then take another firewire, say an 800, from that drive into your computer. I always capture to a hard drive then edit from there. The idea of a firewire bus is that you can connect a number of drives in parallel and mount them all. Available for as little as $69.
Solution 3: Buy a firewire port card for you MacBook which slips into a slot on the side, and gives you connectivity with the 400. It also frees up your main firewire port. I bought one on Ebay for $24 that came with all the adaptors. I was pulling my hair out too until I figured out the system.

firewire is a lot like usb in the power area if the drive is not getting power i would suspect the firewire port. firewire did not become very popular because of problems like these. You need to go down to a computer parts store and by a firewire card and that should provide enough power and bypass the on-board ports. Try to hook another device up to the firewire ports and see if they work if not install the daughterboard with firewire ports

Confirm that the laptop has a PCMCIA card slot. If so, you can get a Firewire PCMCIA card and communicate at near bus speeds on the laptop. That will be a lot faster than the USB port. Almost any Firewire PCMCIA will work. Just make sure that slot is in your chassis.

HAVE YOU HAD THE CAMCORDER ON THE MAINS ADAPTOR WHEN IT WAS CONNECTED TO THE FIREWIRE AS IT HAS TO BE TO POWER THE FIREWIRE PORT!

Either or is my understanding- the scanner will accept either. I can see no need for both.
