I have connected an Acer AL1511 display to my Acer Travelmate laptop. The screen works fine but I can't get a suitable resolution. I have tried "Install New hardware" - select Display and "Have disk" and browse to the .inf file which I have downloaded but the system reports that there is no information in this file. What am I missing?

Are you running Windows XP on your laptop? The driver for the AL1511 monitor is only for Windows XP. What resolution are you getting, and what resolution are you trying to get? Have you tried going into device manager and updating the driver from there?

Mostly, monitors are auto-detected and just "plug-n-Play". Did you try to press Fn+F3/F4 (Toggle Monitor)?

The AL1916W's native resolution is 1440 x 900. See if your display settings can produce that resolution.

SOURCE: Cannot Re-install Windows from Recovery DVD's ACER 5610-4179

Hello,
Your recovery disks must be scratched or files are corrupted. Since you have successfully installed XP Pro, why not stay with it as it's better than Home?
If you have a restoration partition on your C drive, you may be able to revert to your original configuration from it. And if you insist on XP Home or only have a valid product key for home, you can borrow a disk from anyone who has a good copy.
I hope this helps.

You don't need the original setup cd as long as you have the windows cd you can boot up the pc using that cd and just repair the windows or install it over cause its only a file messed up. Get back to me
