If you've lost sound on your computer, there are a couple of suggestions that I would make before seeking any kind of repair.

First, you may want to check your computer's audio control panel to make sure that the speakers haven't been accidentally muted. In most versions of Windows you can check this by clicking on the "Start" menu, choosing "Settings" then "Control Panel." Once in the control panel, you'll want to double-click on the "Sounds and Audio Devices" icon. Please note that you may have to choose the "Classic View" option in certain versions of Windows XP in order to see this icon. Once the audio device properties menu has been opened, on the first tab (labeled "Volume") there should be a sliding bar that allows you to set your speaker's volume level in addition to a checkable "Mute" button just below. Make sure that this is not selected, and then press the "OK" button.

Second, you may want to make sure that your have the most up-to-date drivers for your sound card. Many drivers can be obtained by performing a Microsoft Update or by visiting the computer manufacturer's website. If other speakers do not function either though, you may potentially be looking at a failure within your computer's sound card instead.
