The cause of the TE error for us was grease/gunk on some exposed pins and flex connectors (communication bus between controller and keypad) that was interfering with communication with the keypad. Resolution to TE error: Remove the keypad / control board from the microwave. There are three screws on the bottom at the front to remove. Once those are removed, the keypad is held on by clips. Slide the entire keypad to the left and it will come loose. After it is loose, carefully remove all the wired connectors to the microwave. Lay the keypad face down on the counter and look at the control board. The control board is actually seperate from the keypad and connected via two thin flex strips with many small contacts (like a nintendo game connector) . Our flex strips were covered in grease from the hood fan operation. Carefully clean the strip and the connector (with a felt pen if you have one) and resassemble. This resolved the issue for us.

SOURCE: What does the code F9

The F-9 error code indicates a defective control board, inverter or line voltage too high.

SOURCE: Kenmore elite microwave

Does the digital display light up at all? Is it completely dead? Are you sure it has power? Have you tried another outlet? If the outlet is good and the unit is completely dead, the internal fuse may have blown. You can try to take the cover off (with the unit unplugged) and look for a blown fuse. Try replacing the fuse with an EXACT fuse of the same rating. Try plugging the unit back in again and see if the unit comes back on. If not, you may have a power supply issue or defective Magnetron.

Please let me know what you find and we'll go from there.

Good Luck,
- Jim

SOURCE: Owners manual for Kenmore Elite Microwave Model 66462

A full Sears/Kenmore model number has 3 digits, a dot, then 8 more digits, such as ###.########

You can just enter your full model number at the Sears parts site.

On the resulting page, look to the right for the blue "View manuals" button. Click there.

d:%5cele%5crepair%5cmicrowave%5ckenmore_sears%5cview_manuals_button.jpgd:%5cele%5crepair%5cmicrowave%5ckenmore_sears%5cview_manuals_button.jpgd:%5cele%5crepair%5cmicrowave%5ckenmore_sears%5cview_manuals_button.jpgcaab351.jpg

That Sears-related site has many free manuals. While the manuals they list there are all free, they will ask you to register.

Many times, the owner's manual will have the installation instructions inside.

If yours is not listed there for free, you would have to order it through the
Sears parts site.

SOURCE: My Kenmore Elite Ultra Wave Technology microwave

Here are a couple of quotes from another forum:

"Kenmore Elite 36 " over tne counter microwave is supplied by LG made by Gold Star, made in China. It's main problem is the high voltage inverter board supplyed by Sears Parts. If you get a F-9 code on your microwave display screen and the micro quits it's probably this board. Reset the machine by pulling the power plug and waiting an hour. If it is the high voltage board is at fault it will probably fail after 45 seconds of start up. This part is really hard to get at but is less than $100. A qualified technician should be able to remove and repair this item in less than hour. Some techs will quote you $300 labor, don't buy it, it should cost a $100 or less. No need to buy another microwave."

"F-9 on this microwave IS inverter related. There is a service tech troubleshooting document stuffed in behind the control board cover which has some testing proceedures. My problem was the magnatron and checked out bad with the help of this document. It would run for a few seconds making clicks and then say F-9. It has been working great since I replaced the magnatron PN 6324w1a002c."

Note that part numbers mentioned may not for your model.

You can usually find exploded views and order parts by entering your model number at the Sears parts site.

BUT once you have the part number from the Sears parts site, you can often get the parts cheaper here

Just had this happen - the repair guy says it is the inverter. And they have stopped making the part so it cannot be fixed!!! When did you buy your unit?
