How to disable touchpad?

I would like to disable my touchpad since I just bought a mouse. I can't find the way to do this. There is no option in the control panel when clicked on the mouse icon. What the heck?

I have an HP Pavilion dv4000 with a touch pad, but do not see any button just above the touch pad. i want to disable it because as i type, my plam brushes the pad and jumps the cursor to a different location. Gets really annoying at times.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Just above the touchpad you will find a small button just press it .and you will notice it is disable so no need to do any changes from control panel.if you want to enable it again press the button......

Hello, I have the same issue with my HP Pavillion dv4000. I do not have a "smalll button just above the touchpad". The spacebar is just above the touchpad.

Are there any other ideas on how to disable the touchpad?

Thanks

Hello

Please perform the following steps to disable touchpad

For any touchpad
1. Click Start.
2. Click Control Panel.
3. Click Mouse.
3. Click Device Settings tab in the Mouse Properties window.
5. Click the Disable button.
6. Click Apply and then OK.

If the device settings are not there you need to check the a.net in msconfig for alps touchpad file and reinstall the drivers.
If your notebook has Synaptic Touchpad then there will be "synt" instead of "a.net" .

This should resolve the issue.

Thanks
Regards
