How to Make Invisible Password Protected Folder Submitted by Srikanth on...

How to Make Invisible Password Protected Folder2761870.jpg Submitted by Srikanth on Thursday, 10 December 200930 Comments Do you want to password protect your folder? Do you want to make it invisible so that it remains unnoticed by the normal users? Well here is a way to do that. In this post I will show you how to make a password protected folder in Windows without using any additional software. Here is is step by step procedure to create a password protected folder.

How to create a Password Protected Folder
Step-1: Create a new folder (Right-click -> New -> Folder) and give it any name of your choice. For instance I name it as ABC.
Step-2: Now in this folder place all the important files, documents or any folders that you want to password protect.
Step-3: Now Right-click on this folder (ABC) and select the option Send To -> Compressed (zipped) Folder.
Step-4: Now a new compressed zipped folder gets created next this folder (ABC) with the same name.
Step-5: Double-click on this compressed zipped folder and you should see your original folder (ABC) here.
Step-6: Now goto the File menu and select the option Add a password.
ie: File -> Add a password
Now a small window will pop up and here you can set your desired password. Once the password is set, the folder will ask for the password every time it is opened. Thus you have now created the password protected folder.

How to make it Invisible
Step-1: Now Right-click on this password protected folder and select Properties.
Step-2: At the bottom select the option Hidden and press OK. Now your folder gets invisible (hidden).
Step-3: In order to unhide this folder go to My Computer – >Tools -> Folder options. Switch to View tab, scroll down and under Hidden files and folders you’ll see the following two options
  • Do not show hidden files and folders
  • Show hidden files and folders
Now select the second option and press OK. Now the invisible folder becomes visible in it’s location. To access it you need the password. To make it invisible again repeat step -1 through step-3 and select the first option and click OK. Now the folder becomes invisible once again.
I hope you like this post. Pass your comments!! Cheers

Password Protect Folders in XP

There are two ways to password protect a folder built into Windows XP (for other Windows flavors, there are some freeware/shareware programs out there).
Method 1:- If you have a log in password for your account, this can be used to protect folders from other users. Your hard drive must be formatted using NTFS (which it probably is unless you're dual booting with another operating system). Here's what to do...

Right-click the folder that you want to make private and choose "Properties" (or Alt+Double-click). Go to the "Sharing" tab and check the "Make this folder private" box.

Click Apply . If you do not have a password on your account, a box will pop up asking if you want to assign a password. This must be done if you want to make the folder private, so click Yes . You will need to use your password to log on to your computer from then on.

Type in a password then confirm it. Click the "Create Password" button then close the Password window.

Click OK in the Properties dialog box.

Now anyone else logged on to your computer can't access that file without knowing your password.
Method 2:- If the Folder is Zipped you can give it a unique password.

Just double-click the zipped folder. In the top menu select File then click "Add a Password".

Type a password into the Password box. Then again in the "Confirm Password" box.

Now, you are the only person who can access files in this folder. The folder can be opened allowing the files to be seen, but you are the only one who can access them.

How do I set the password for an individual folder; i.e., F1 I want to password proctect the folder as well as rename the folder.

  • 1 Select the individual folder that you would like to password protect. If you will be protecting multiple folders, it is easiest to place all of these folders into one larger folder and simply add a password to that master folder.

However, it is also possible to add passwords to folders at multiple levels within the folder arrangement. This is an excellent way to allow certain users access to some documents by giving them the password for the higher level files while making the master passwords for the interior folders available only to those who have access.

  • 2 Highlight the designated folder, and left click on it to open the drop-down menu. Select the "Folder Information" option, and open the Folder Information menu. This will give you access to the various preferences that are adjustable for each folder, such as color, icon and name.
  • 3 Click on "Password Protect," which may be on the main menu or on a "Settings" or "Security" tab. Apply a level of password protection that fits your needs. Set a password for the folder that will be easily remembered. Click "Apply" in the bottom right corner to make the changes permanent.
