Water filters do not have a regeneration cycle, they filter the water as it passes through. You do have to replace the filter and the frequency of doing that depends on the sediment in your water. If you are talking about a water softner which does regenerate, all the new ones have sensors in them and they regenerate only when needed. This saves tons of salt over the old systems you would set to regenerate every two or three days whether they needed it or not.
