Hey abbytho,
The most common reason for this message is the memory card or the internal memory is not formatted. If you don't know how to do this the directions should be on page 75 of your manual. If this doesn't work try cleaning the contact area on your xD card with a soft dry cloth, and if this doesn't work you should have the camera looked at by an authorized service technician.
