This is a common problem for Acers. If you are in warranty, send it in. If not, it'll cost you $450.00 to replace the motherboard. I highly suspect it's a temperature issue as I can leave my laptop off for a day or two and it will work for nearly an hour or so before locking up. Mine's 2 months out of warranty and I don't feel like spending 65% of what I paid for a new one for a second lemon, so I'm continuing to examine the problem... If I can find a solution other than replacing the motherboard (swatting a fly with a howetzer), I'll let you know. In the meantime, there are many other posts with some suggestions, though none have worked for me so far...
TIP: If you have more than one computer, enable remote desktop on the laptop. It will work even after the KVM locks up. You can back up all your data and even shut down the laptop gracefully (ctrl-alt-end for shutdown menu with remote desktop or use shutdown -s)
I think you have 2 problem.
1.If you can use after a few minutes ls it freeze up then it can be the software problem or otherwise CPU overheat in your laptop
2.the vertical line on the monitor can cause by loose LCD connector inside you monitor or your LCD have problem.Incase LCD have problem then no other choice is to change it.
Incase when you say after you restart and your LCD work fine then its not a LCD problem, its a loose connector problem..
What I recommend is to clear this problem fast cos it can spoil your LCD monitor.
takecare.
