Hi all! Got a problem with my excellent Viewsonic P815 21" monitor's CRT-board. Need schemetic drawing of CRT-Driver board because of HW-problem: Random flickering of Y intensity combined with a light colorshift while picture size/geometry of sweeping system stays pretty constant. - Might be a DC-shift on one colour amp or s.th. alike. On times the failure does not show up, the picture is nice and clear as always was. - I therefore resisted to chance that older (1998) but nicely engineered (Panasonic?) system against one of the LCD-Flatscreens. If it flickers it drives you crazy within a few minutes withstanding the fault. I do have some electronic metering equipment and tools for repair, but no electronic or paperware docu of schematics nor component locators. Anybody who can help? - Thank you! Gerd

If it isn't capacitors, It is usually the transistors that feed the backlight output transformers.
I fix many VX units with these issues.

kauffman014, As far as opening the monitor up you may want to visit YOUTUBE and search for lcd monitor repair/ disassembling monitor/ or something like that. I did see a 9-11 min video there that was fairly good on un-snapping the rear cover from the front bezel of what I think was a DELL unit. Also visit electronicrepairguide.com run by a jestine yong. don't pay any attention to his ad to purchase repair course in lcd/fpd servicing!! only look at the pic's of the insides of lcd monitors and the power supply boards/inverter boards. On gateway's, and dell monitors the pedestal must be unscrewed from the rear cover first. The pedestal is really screwed down to the steel FPD chassis that covers the circuit boards and provides a ridgid mounting surface for the unit as a whole. Work on a flat surface with screen facing down on a blanket or lots of newspaper to prevent maring of the FPD!
There should be some phillips screws that fasten the steel shield to the left/right sides of the FPD frame. Once you get down to looking at the Switch-Mode-Power-Supply (smps) board look for large filter capacitors (electrolytic polarized aluminum can) that have the tops of them bulging upward as compared to normal ones that are flat. You will also need to inspect the bottom (solder side) of the board where all the leads of the components from the top side are soldered. You are looking for very thin hairline 'thermal' and or 'vibration' circular FRACTURES around the leads of the larger and bulkier (heavy) components. Yeah...use a big magnifying glass or better yet a 10x or 20x inspection microscope. One last thing, I highly recomend taking digital pic's as you disassemble the unit so it can be put together again without leftover parts. hope this info helps you out.
