From 4th on, use the ordinal fifth, sixth, ... n-th
To calculate the fourth root you have two possibilities.
Some calculators have the x-root key marked with an x followed by the radical symbol. See the screen capture on how to find your result.
Usually the x-root is the SHIFTED function of the general power key that is marked ( [^], [X^y], or [Y^x] ). To use it, you inter the index of the root (the ordinal number). then you press the [SHIFT/2nd/ 2nd] [X^y] sequence and the number whose root you are calculating).
Alternatively: Use the equivalence n-th Root (x)=x^(1/n), meaning that to extract the fourth root of 16, you raise 16 to the power of (1/4)
The radical symbol is used to calculate square roots. It a radical has a small 3 to the top left of it, it means cubic root. It it has a a small n or a small x to the top left of it, it means nth root.
The way any of these roots works is one of the following: Enter a number (positive for a square root or an nth root with n even) then press the square root button. The result is then displayed.
The other way is to press the root key then enter the number whose root you wan t calculate. The result is then displayed.
If you press the square root key and a radical is displayed withy a left parenthesis, you can be sure it is the second way.
The square root button is two up from the 9 key, just to the left of the divide key. To calculate the square root of 2, for example, press 2 square-root =
"Root" means the player is reading the Root Menu of the Disc, which contains the title information, chapter information, etc - it is nothing to worry about.
