Here's a website that has specs and functions of various units, not sure if they're the ones you're referring to. The Aladin Smart Com computer-controlled unit monitors and adjusts, and seems to me to be far superior, although both look like quality items. If you scroll down you'll find the regular Aladin, and it's specs. Didn't see any Consumer Report type articles, so hope it helps.

your answer is getting to what i need to discern...... im trying to decide whether the smart com or the aladin will better meet my needs... i cant figure out which has better functionality.. one big drawback to the smart com is no user replaced battery.. and a couple of internet horror stories about how the dive started showing 87 percvent battery and ended with a battery dead warning
im getting back to active diving after a 10 year sabbatical.. the unit in my gear bag is a very dusty edge which is so far out of the envelope as to be a piece of equipment destined for the rec room wall

im taking your comment to read that u feel the aladin is the unit with superior functionality.. is that a correct interpretation
do u dive with a decom meter... or just being a techo analyst on this one (thats not meant as a slam in any way.....i have an engineering background and sometimes i enjoy analysing technology i do not have call to use in my life

Shel, I always wanted to go scuba diving, but heard, in my younger years, about people dying because of equipment malfunction (as you experienced), or improper training and knowledge. So, I never got into it, but have a rudimentary understanding of how critical things are concerning the sport. I guess you're looking into an answer about reliability, and I truthfully can't help out there. Here is the link for the Aladin Smart Com, which you might have missed. As long as the device remains waterproof, I would think it's functionality would be pretty solid. Anyway, hope you find what satisfies you, it's important to have faith in equipment that your life depends upon!
