That will depend on (1) the model hard disk drive (HDD) and (2) whether or not the HDD is the only drive on that IDE channel.
If you'd still like to use the Master/Slave configuration after reading my suggestions below, please, let us know what the model number of the HDD is and we'll be happy to provide that information for you.

The easiest thing to do would be to place the HDD in "Cable Select" mode (look for the jumper pins labeled CS) and place the 2nd device (if there is one) on that same CS cable in CS mode as well.
The master device in a CS configuration should be on the LAST connector of the CS cable - farthest away from the motherboard IDE channel connection. The slave drive should be connected between the motherboard and the primary (master) drive.
If you choose to use CS jumpering, you will need to be sure and use a CS (high density (80 wire) ATA/IDE cable) and not one of the older type (40 wire) ATA/IDE cables.

A caveat w/ respect to using CS is that your motherboard must support it. You'll know it doesn't if, when you try to plug in a CS cable, it doesn't fit.
Please, go HERE for further explanations regarding the cabling. You'll see some pics towards the bottom that can be helpful.
We really need to know the model number of the hard disk drive in order to give you that information.
Is there a reason you are unable to give us that information? (e.g. model number not visible on the hard disk drive label?)

I haven't found a listing for this particular HDD yet. Please, try the common setting for setting a Samsung HDD to Master. If that doesn't work, please, let us know. We'll continue to search until we find a solution for you.
Ah. It's a Hitachi. OK. That explains why I didn't find it under Samsung listings.
I look it up under Hitachi (formerly IBM by the way).

To set a Hard Disk to master mode is quite simple. On the side of the Hard Disk that has the power hook-up and data hook-up, there is also a small section of usually about 8 little prongs, and you'll see something that looks like somebody stuck something on those prongs. It is called a jumper, and it can put the hard disk in various states such as Master, Slave, Cable Select, and more. You usually cant use a hard drive without a jumper, so don't lose it. On either the top or bottom of the HD, there should be various information about the HD. You should also see a diagram of about 8 squares, just like the 8 prongs next to the power and data connections on the HD. Find the one for Single or Master, switch the jumper to the position it tells you to, and you'll be all set!

When you into the bios settings choose default bios settings and save, reboot the machine and have a look in the bios again to see if the bios has picked the drive up
