I have a Zip 250 disk that will not read. When I insert the disk in the external disk drive, it will spin and stop a few times and that's it. When I try to access the disk/drive letter via "My Computer", it just tell me to "Please insert a disk in the disk drive." The zip drive itself is ok because I am able to read/write to other disks.

If the disk is unreadable this means that the format or the files extensions on it are not readable in the operation system you use..either are damaged or the disk itself is damaged or it wasn't finalized like it should ...If other disks inserted run ok than the disk it is damaged and it is nothing wrong with the drive itself..When it says to insert a disk this means that it is not seeing the disk at all and it sounds like a drive problem ..but if other disks are ok ..than it is just a damaged disk or in a format unreadable ..beware if it a cd unit ..will not read dvd-es..or if it a dvd kind will not read large dvd-es (dual layer) or blue-ray disks..

Is there any way to repair it so I can access the files? I have some family photos on there that are pretty valuable.

probably it is beyond recover from heat exposure or something ..anyway I will try to link to a recovery program just to give it a try ..maybe there is something readable on it ..
try this one ..it is free and it supposed to recover files from disks..

    http://www.kvipu.com/CDCheck/download.ph...
just install it and choose check or recover ..if you choose recover also choose a folder for to put the files in..

Im sorry to hear that ..the disk is too damaged to work than ..it is either a temperature or a mechanical damage and it can not be restored until is read ina a device ..If they are important enough for you ..you may try a professional recovery ..they may have ways to do it iven on this kinda disks...probably another kinda optical reading and if we are talking about pictures..those are the easiest to retrieve from a damaged hard disk too .so I guess from a disk like this also ...Give it a try ..I can do no further ..and I kinda expected tis ..cause your disk is not read at all...thast why it says to insert a disk in the drive ...You can try it in another less sensitive drive ..and see maybe you will find one to read it ..
