Printhead Problems Can you make an HP L7780 print with only one of the printheads if it keeps saying the other one is bad while you're waiting on the replacement to arrive? I have replaced the magenta/cyan printhead twice in the last 3 months and it keeps going "bad". (I don't really think it's bad, but a partial reset of the system didn't fix the problem)

I have cleaned the printhead, replaced the print cartridges, still won't work because of "printhead error in yellow/black printhead"

My Officejet Pro L7780 says that there is a printhead problem with black/yellow (k/y), and the printer will not let me do anything (clean, align) because I can't push setup or anything else. I ordered a new one, but is there another solution?

I too am experiencing the error:

"The following printhead(s) has a problem

    black/yello(k,y)"

I've tried shaking the printhead and cleaning it, but the same error occurs.

The printer inexplicably decided that the m/c printhead was bad. No abuse. Less than 1 year old. Error has rendered printer inoperable. Replacement print head is 25% the cost of the ----- printer. That is BS!!

Sounds like a defect with these printers as I have the same problem with the magenta/yellow print head; "shaking it properly" did not solve the problem. Has anyone else found a solution?

Same deal here. The M/C printhead is the problem. So i take it out, clean it up and then the K/Y has a problem too. I have fooled with them, cleaning them and replacing them loads of times. They might work again for a few prints, but then the same problem reoccurs. SUPER ANNOYED!!!

We are experiencing the same problem! Are there any new solutions out there or should we take the b... printer and throw it back at HP?

I purchased a HP 7680 printer 15 months ago- three months out of warranty.

I have been chatting with HP now for two weeks regarding a printhead problem/error I have had with the HP L7680- similar to all of your 7780s. They sent me new printheads only to find the problem still exists. Now they offer to "Upgrade" me to a L7780 machine with new warranty, cables, etc. for the "good" price of only $269.95. I have found this model online for $230.

There are hundreds of posts I have found in only an hour's worth of searching re: HP L7680 printhead problems and now they offer to 'upgrade' me with a comparable faulty printer?

Obviously HP has built and continues to sell a printer with known issues. I have own many, many HP products over the years and have never experienced problems like this, or more specifically, such poor and inept customer service. It would seem to me that a company with HP's stature would make an exception to their warranty policy for hardware with well-documented issues?

Does anyone have any thoughts, comments or suggestions regarding similar experiences? Is there a consumer advocacy group or center that could be contacted?

I would consider their 'upgrade' offer if it truely was an upgrade jesture, not just an attempt for the company to generate another retail sale- did I mention they suggested a 3-year extended warranty for only $44.95?

The M/C printhead failed on my L7780 printer also, I purchased a replacement with printed three pages and then likewise failed. The printer was less than one year old when the printhead failed I emailed a tech request to HP but never got a reply.

Since buying the L7780 printer for our business office two years ago, the printer has been a work horse for us. The problems I've seen online about scanning, paper jams and ink cartridge issues have been none existent. Then it was time to change the print head. The L7780 printed several pages before the print head error message appeared and the printer ceased printing. We tried all the solutions offered online including another print head and cartridges but to no avail. We were ready to buy a new printer. Then a member our team whom we dubbed “Service Tech 130” came up with the solution. Service Tech 130 simply pried the chips off both print heads with a screw driver and super glued the old chip onto the new print head. Now the printer has been working as if nothing was every wrong.
For this to work for those of you having the same problem, you would have to be in possession of the old print head that worked prior to the error. Attached is an image showing the location of the chip. Hope this works for you as it did for us.Printhead Problems - 9101d4c.gif
