It just may be the CPU just from your description.
One important thing you mentioned is the PC would just shut down for no reason. Thats what the system should do when there is a over heat issue with the CPU. Fact your board is doing what it should. Beeps do mean you have a board issue. 90% of the issues can be fixed, cause it's hardware failuar. Parts connected to the board. Your "ding dong ding dong" is a CPU failuare. Replace both CPU & heatsink & fan.
That is also why you get beeps.
Beeps tell a tech what part or parts are defective or need attention.

You may have a faulty motherboard, im sure its not the aanswer you wanted to hear but generally beeps mean errors!!!
