When you power up the Sharp AL-1642CS it gets a jam indication lite. There are no jams and all flag arms work correctly. If you have any suggestions please advise on the fix of the Sharp copier

Background:
If you have a jam indicator (figure "8" with lightning bolt coming out the right) but see no jams then we can cycle the paper feed rollers to try and kick out small bits of paper that you can't see and reset the jam tickers. This fix for this will work only if you cannot find any paper in the machine jammed.

How to fix:
1. Put machine into service mode:
a. push clear, auto, clear, auto (that's twice in succession alternatively) and if done correctly the lights will turn off and the screen will be blank.
b. enter the number 6 as if you're doing 6 copies.
c. push green copy button
d. enter the number 1 as if you're doing 1 copy.
e. push green copy button, then push it again - the machine will start 'clicking' and after 20 seconds stop.

2. Push clear several times until machine starts up then attempt a copy, but wait!
a. the previous code forces a jam in the paper tray, so pull it out
b. open up the right hand door to reset the jam indicator
c. try another copy

3. If you still get a jam at this point then the machine needs a repair, which can be done by Sharp in or out of warranty. Out of warranty is a flat rate charge of $140.00. Call 1800 237 4277 to set this up.

I had almost the same problem but the problem that I had was that after running 5 or more copies it would show a jam with no paper anywhere. And the only way to clear the jam was shutting the machine off and turing it back on.
What I found out was that the gate (flag) on the fuser unit was heating up and the gate (flag) was sticking a bit. (Plastic that close to the fuser isn't the best design)
Anyway, the only way to resolve this problem was replacing the fuser that had a new gate (flag) already installed.
You can replace the flag by itself also.
The way to see if your machine has the same problem, is if you get a jam and you open the right side door, push the black gate and see if it moves a little bit. If it was stuck then your machine is doing the same as mine was.
Good luck.
Hope this helps.
