Help retrieving data

Hello allI have a problem I hope someone can help me with it.. I had a laptop and motherboard failed so I got a desktop now and the WIN xp I had on laptop I transfered it my new desktop..my laptop hd is fine but I can't retrieve any of my pics of music files I had on it.. I have a cable I can use with usb connector I tried to boot from it but it doesn't allow me to do anything.. how can I retrieve my pics anf others from it? I can see my program files and WIN files but when I go to the user file is empty

    Thank you for your reply.

    I have already tried that and did not work.. since the file under my user is empty and I had all this on my pics and my music folders.. I've looked everywhere and can't find them.. any other ideas?

As for the Data... You can connect the Laptop 2.5 Drive to the desktop using a USB Sata/IDE COnnector/Adapter Found On Ebay For Under $9 You Connect the Drive To The Desktop, Boot the Desktop To The OS ... Then Look In My Computer .. The External Laptop Drive Will Be Connected Just Like A Flash or Thumb Drive... Then Simply Search For Your Files... Open Control Panel And Click On The FOLDER icon... in the list, choose to Enable/Show hidden Files And Folders..

    use a program called

    Recover My Files (do A Google Search On It..)

    If you're able to View The Contents Of The Drive, Yu Can use this software to scan even formated OS's to retrieve Specific Data.. Yo Can Also Choose The Exact Type Of Data/Files To Search Out...
